Services & Initiatives

The Tahatikonhsotóntie Head Start began operations in September 2000, at this time we run several programs including the following;

Our drop-in program runs Tuesday and Friday from 9:00 to 11:00, designed for children newborn to 6 years of age and a parent/guardian etc. The drop in program curriculum includes a variety of fun, hands-on learning activities which encompass the six components of Head Start.  Adults who attend have opportunity tointeract with other adults, engagewith allchildren and lend support to other participants.

Our Junior Program is for children who are on the waiting list that are 2 to 3 years of age, but not quite ready for the afternoon program.  This program runs Monday and Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00, we have spaces for 8 children.  The junior program acts as a stepping stone for children to enter into the afternoon program.

Our Afternoon Program is licensed for 24 children by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. This program runsfrom Monday to Friday, 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.  The afternoon curriculum is based on the High Scope Curriculum model.  Interactive learning, cultural teachings, Mohawk Language, School Readiness and Social Skill development are some of the areas focused on.  Bus transportation is provided to those children who require transportation.

Workshops are  typically run once per week during a morning. Evening workshops and programs are hosted about one time per month which includes the six components of head start; culture & language, education, social support, nutrition, health promotion, and parenting information
